CURLING, David H. B Mech, p.t.s.c., Fellow PMI, Fellow IPMA, CD
This message, from asapm President Lew Ireland, acknowledges David H. Curling's contributions.
David Curling, of Ottawa, Ontario, a long-time leader in project
management, passed away to leave a void in the Global Project Management
Community. He will be sorely missed for his continual contribution to the
growth of project management knowledge. David is perhaps best known by
many for starting and maintaining PM Forum, a website that promoted project
management activities around the world.
David's work was recognized for his work in 1998 by the Project Management
Institute when he was elected to be a Fellow. On the International scene,
David was known throughout global project management community as one who
spoke his mind on the issues and challenges of project management. His
guidance came from years of experience and use of project management.
Our sympathy goes out to Lois, his wife of 54 years, for her loss.
David Curling's Obituary
Peacefully after a full, adventuresome and active life, on Thursday, June 30th, 2005, in his 76th year. He leaves behind Lois, his loving wife of more than 54 years. David lived his life keeping in mind his priorities of a loving relationship with Lois, the love of his life, daughters Brenda and Deborah (Alan) and 3 beautiful grandchildren Laura, Nicholas and Victoria. David graduated from Carleton College in 1950, and went on to graduate from McGill University with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He followed this up in 1958 with graduation from the Royal Military College of Science as a Technical Staff Officer. He joined the Canadian Federal Public Service in 1965 where he served with the Department of Industry and the Department of Supply and Services. His service with the Department of Supply and Services was a series of appointments as Senior Procurement Officer and at the end of his service as Senior Staff Officer Major Crown Projects and Director of the Project Management Advisory Group.
David was an admirer of Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christie's well known character who constantly "exercised his little grey cells". To this end he embranced the Internet and developed, installed and constantly improved the PMFORUM web site for the advancement of a global project management discipline. It was a measure of his experience and skills both management and technical that the PMFORUM is the most influential and internationally popular project management site on the web. He was regularly asked to speak at international conferences on project management.
David had no regrets nor would he act any differently if given the chance. He marched to a different drummer that was focused on Christian principles and ethics. He had a full and eventful life. Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road (at Roosevelt) on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Private family interment at United Cemetery, Carleton Place.
